Dress worn by oil exec’s mistress sells out

A bright pink dress worn by a Chinese oil executive’s apparent mistress is all the rage after a video of the couple holding hands in public went viral.

The owner of the shop that sells the dress has said the item is now completely sold out after over 12 million online inquiries inundated the store. Over 4,000 units of the pink silk dress, adorned with floral patterns, had been sold as of Saturday.

The dress, priced at 618 yuan (around $86), topped the search list at ecommerce platform Taobao over the last few days.

The video that sparked the frenzy shows a married China National Petroleum executive’ holding hands with a female colleague wearing the now famous and highly-sought after dress on the streets of Chengdu, reported the South China Morning Post.

The dress is now referred to by several monickers and nicknames, including the “Hand-in-Hand” and “The Dismissal,” after both people in the video were dismissed from their positions at the state-owned oil company.

One comment on the shop owner’s account read: “Don’t be embarrassed for wearing the same dress as the woman in the video.”
