Vietnamese box office sets record-breaking revenue

This is the first time the Vietnamese box office achieved the milestone, according to the independent analysis unit Box Office Vietnam.

Although only eight domestic movies were released in the first half of the year, they accounted for over half of the recorded revenue.

Nguyen Khanh Duong, founder of Box Office Vietnam, says domestic audiences are more interested in domestic movies compared to foreign counterparts. There have not been any foreign films that surpassed VND100 billion in revenue this year.

The record-breaking number was achieved largely thanks to two domestic movies of “Nha Ba Nu” (The House of No Man) and “Lat Mat 6” (Face Off 6).

One month after its release in January, “Nha Ba Nu” achieved VND458 billion in revenue and five million viewers, making it the most-watched movie of all time in Vietnam.

Director Charlie Nguyen adds that the success of “Nha Ba Nu” shows that the family drama is still a genre favored by many audiences in Vietnam.

“Lat Mat 6” generated a revenue of VND250 billion three weeks after its premiere in April and became the Vietnamese movie with the third-highest revenue of all time. The movie has been praised for its thrilling vibe and proper promotional campaigns.

On the platform of TikTok, the hashtag of the same name with the movie gained over 1.3 billion views.

In the second half of this year, foreign films will seemingly overwhelm domestic ones in terms of number. During the period between June and September, there are no domestic films set to release.

Meanwhile, many foreign movies have been announced, including “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” “Flash,” “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.”
